Nerve health is important for today and for tomorrow. There are vitamins, minerals, and other supplements that will make a difference in your nerve health. By maintaining healthy nerves you will keep your brain functioning well and will keep your nerves firing appropriately.

Start with a good multi-vitamin.

There are many different substances that are needed for healthy nerves. By taking a good multi-vitamin you will help your body get many of the things it needs for maintaining the nerve cells. Your body needs all the B vitamins, Vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium in order to maintain healthy nerve cells and the melanin sheath that protects them.

Vitamin B12.

One of the most important vitamin for maintaining healthy nerves is Vitamin B12. If you have any reason to be concerned that your body isn't getting enough B12 or you are at risk of having degenerative nerves then you should add a natural Vitamin B12 supplement to your daily intake.

Vitamin D.

While a good multi-vitamin will include Vitamin D the truth is that many of us (one study suggests as many as 85% of Americans) have a Vitamin D shortage. Modern times have taught us to cover up, expose ourselves to less sun, and to use sun screen to protect our skin. This is good and helps many people avoid skin cancers and other problems associated with sun damage. However, all of this covering up makes it so that many of us don't get enough Vitamin D. It is true that many foods are fortified with Vitamin D including milk. Still many of us need more. Vitamin D can be toxic in high doses so it is a good idea to talk to your doctor to make sure that you are getting enough before adding a supplement to your diet.

Fatty Acids.

The body is also in need of healthy fatty acids. The best ones for nerve health are Omega-3's. These are good for many different things and they are lacking in most modern western diets. You can add them in the form of a supplement by taking fish oil (liquid or capsules) or Flaxseed oil (liquid or capsules). Either supplement will provide you with the fatty acids that your body needs to maintain health nerve cells and healthy nerve function.

Herbs.

In addition to taking a good multi-vitamin, adding Vitamin B12, checking your Vitamin D intake, and adding Omega 3's to your supplement intake for healthy nerves you may want to consider adding a few herbs. Many help with brain function and help to keep the nervous system healthy. They include gingko bolivia, rosemary, sage, horsebalm, Brazil nut, Fenugreek, gota kola, and gingsing. Many are available in supplements or can be drank as an herbal tea.

Mixes.

There are many products that are designed for healthy nerves. They often include a mix of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other ingredients and are said to be balanced for your nervous system and brain function. Many of these can be helpful, but before you begin any of these you should read up on reviews to look for negative comments and search information of each ingredient to make sure that what you will be taking is healthy for you and not bad.

Taking supplements for nerve health can be a very good thing. It is a good idea to talk with your doctor about each supplement that you are wanting to take to make sure that it is healthy for you, to make sure that it doesn't mix poorly with anything else that you are taking, and to make sure that you won't be overdosing on those ingredients. Remember that some plants, vitamins, minerals, and other supplement ingredients can cause harm for you when taken in doses that are too high or when you have other problems. It is always a good idea to be safe and make sure that what you want to take is really what you should take.
