Kidneys are important for so many reasons and yet quite often they are treated as if they do not exist.  The only time the kidneys become important is when there is something wrong with them.  Considering that the kidney is the bodies filtering system maybe looking after them occasionally would be a good idea.

When cleansing the kidneys any herb that is classed as a diuretic will be helpful.  A diuretic herb promotes urination which in turn helps flush out those toxins from the kidney that much faster.  A great and natural herb which has this effect is the dandelion.  Taraxacum officinale or the common dandelion is high in potassium as well so even with increased urination there will be no loss of this important mineral.

Another great herb for kidneys is parsley although if you are pregnant or taking certain blood thinning medication then this herb should be avoided.  Parsley or Petroselinum crispum to give it its proper name is widely cultivated in just about every country and as well as being great for kidneys it also has lots of folic acid, Vitamin C and A and is a good source of anti oxidants.

Juniper berries are a sometimes overlooked herbal supplement that can work wonders with the kidneys.  They are an excellent diuretic and have been shown to lower blood pressure in rats.  Like many other herbal remedies a medical professional should be consulted before taking as Juniper has occasionally been known to irritate the kidneys in some people.

Cleansing the kidneys does not have to be a chore.  A little ginger added to food can do wonders for the kidneys.  Zingiber officinale or ginger as it is more commonly known has a long history of being used in herbal medicine and is extremely safe to use.

Certain foods should be avoided when attempting to cleanse the kidneys.  Anything with a processed element should be cut down on.  So anything with sugar or anything that has been processed is out, as is anything with caffeine or alcohol.  Foods high in sodium such as sesame seeds or some nuts should also be avoided.

The kidneys remove all sorts of poisons from the blood stream but any filtering system needs a little maintenance now and again.   Toxins and impurities can build up occasionally causing painful kidney stones or allowing kidney infections to creep in.  Taking something that will keep them healthy and help with taking the toxins out of the kidneys can only be a good thing.
